A bike ride to change lives
This November I will mountain bike through Ethiopia. Together with 29 other supporters, we will cycle 40,000km and raise CHF 1,000,000 for the Swiss Surgeons in Ethiopia Foundation. Our goal is to support the GOSTAR project, and implement Swiss surgeon Dr. Jörg Peltzer's (Pele's) vision of building a center of excellence for trauma surgery in Eastern Africa.
A broken leg or arm in Ethiopia can leave you crippled for the rest of your life and have dire financial and social consequences. A simple surgery costs only 30 CHF. Your donation of 30 CHF will therefore dramatically change the outlook of those concerned.
Because of Pele’s center, every year, thousands of patients receive surgical care and can return to their daily work. Timely treatment also prevents 60 to 80 amputations a year.
Why am I doing this ride?
Africa is a fascinating continent. Exploring it on the mountain bike is a special adventure. Raising money, while doing my hobby is a privilege.
We often talk about investing in Africa and thus create a positive environment for those societies.
This project does it in an ideal way – it improves health conditions for the local population. And at the same time, develops their skillset in medicine, construction, physiotherapy. It is great to see that we also have some tailwind with a new political leadership in Ethiopia, who will make sure that people can apply their know-how in an opening and prospering society.
The challenges for Africa are huge, but we need to start somewhere! Your contribution can make a difference!
How can you help?
The entry for the ride is a donation of 20,000 CHF per person and I will cover this myself as well as all the trip costs. My target is to raise at least another 20,000 CHF with the generous help of my friends and family. I will ensure every Swiss Franc donated goes directly to the foundation! The Impact of Your Donation
Every donation helps Pele's team increase their impact. Below is an indicator of what your specific donation means for the center's patients:

Pays for 15 Surgeries
Donating CHF 450 changes the lives of over 10 families, especially those that need multiple operations to return to health
CHF 1200
Pays for 40 Surgeries
Donating over CHF 1000 also funds the prosthetic restoration of all amputees in an average Ethiopian village
CHF 2100
Pays for 70 Surgeries
CHF 2100 pays for two weeks of a specialist Swiss nurse. If only 10 friends donated this amount I would reach my CHF 20,000 target!
